Huggto Precure Exposed- Hana and George
Hugtto Precure is a Magical Girl anime that focuses on jobs , your future goals and the future. When I first watched it, the series looked promising, the first fight was animated well and the characters were interesting but I could not shake off a weird feeling I had and it will be discussed later in this analysis.
The ages of the characters are:
Hana (13), later turns 14 in the series
George: Unknown age (not listed)
In this series Cure Yell is drawn older than Hana (she is 14) she wears mascara, lipstick and blush. In some scenes Cure Yell is drawn like 14 but in others she is drawn much older with a less round face and makeup as well as getting taller compared to her civillian form.
In her Magical Girl Uniform it is a modified cheerleader uniform and her midriff is showing. In the media a beared midriff is used to indicate sexiness cslled the Beared Midriff is Sexy trope.
It is not the first time this design choice has occoured in Precure however with Cure Yell's character design , it is indicating to the viewers that this design is making a 14 year old appear more ' mature' and attractive'.
During her transformation sequence prior to her dress materializing we see her naked for a few seconds (covered up with pink shiloette sparkles) and we see the makeup appear on her face making her look less child like.
I first recalled Cure Ace who is a 12 year old that takes the form of a grown woman in her Precure form.
You already know my thoughts about oversexualizing minors from my previous articles.
As I stated above in some shots she looks older but in others she looks 14 as I showed in the above images. (Her actual age)
This seasons focus was also about child rearing. A 13 year old girl and her friends are adultified to take care of a baby.
I still have chills remembering the episode when the baby almost died, this made me realise this event traumatized Hana, she already had to go through bullying , now taking care of a baby and now that baby was near death after the bsby used it's power to protect the girls from an attack. There are lighter moments after this turn of events but it does not remove the premise, a teenager has to take care of a baby nor the darker themes where the baby is put in harm constantly or other events.
We see how Hana takes care of Hugutan and later revolves her life around being a "parent" to her.
In my opinion this should NOT be pushed to an audience of young girls because it is subconciously saying that this is all a womans worth is to take care of children.
Hana has a life and goals that she has to discover as she grows up and putting that responsibility of child rearing in a young girls hands makes her loose out on her childhood/ adolecence.
Due to Hana being adultified she slowly looses herself and we see it occour slowly over time. The main villians often use this against her especially the big boss of the villian group.
The introduction of George Kurai is where things go from bad to worse.
HE IS A PREDATOR.
Hana and George first meet and bond over books. Then he slowly starts stalking her, gives her flowers, manipulates her and hurts her AND THE BABY at one point. He is fixated on a teenaged girl due to her being HIS DEAD WIFE in his timeline. This was when I stopped watching the show because we see how George weaved his way into a 13-14 year olds life with no concequences to his actions.
Hana was being groomed in the course of the series and no adult protected her from this creep.
Also he puts her in a fantasy where they get married and he tries to tell her about the loss of Alternate! Her that is his deceased wife and she will be a replacement for her.
At the end of the series after breaking out of his illusion. Cure Yell sympathizes with him. She hugs him from behind, says he understands him. (NO she does not, he is a grown man and shecis A CHILD. He hurt her in so many ways that I think she should have ran away from him or called her parents to get away from him).
She holds his hand and they share a longing look. This man has hurt her, kidnapped the baby in her care, hurt her by sending monsters to destroy her group/ the city and manipulated her to the point SHE NEARLY DESPAIRS , another time she could no longer transform due to those low feelings.
This reaction Hana has to a groomer is highlighting the flaw of the all loving heroine, that means in a magical girl work that she has to take a male characters abuse because HE HAS GOOD IN HIM.
Please do not put your mental or physical health in danger for potential because this type of dynamic will cause a woman/ girl in real life to experience heart break, trauma and abuse.
This dynamic is disturbing because George confused Hana during a privotal moment in her life and was so traumatized by these events that she feels sympathy to such a horrid man due to those 'nice' moments. No this is a predatory relationship being depicted on screen.
This is Future! Hana that George is greiving over and compares Present! Hana with.
This is not okay to put in a show because it glorifies pedophelia. It is telling young girls to allow a man to pursue you and 'be his friend' even if he is weird and makes you uncomfortable.
It is revealed that the baby we see through out the series is Hana and (maybe) George's daughter from the future. Confirmed by we see on screen Adult! Hana giving birth on screen.
In context: George is attacking his future daughter, kidnaps her and uses it to get Hana close to him so he can fight with her in the final battle. He does not care about Hana or the baby, he is simply a predator driven mad by greif and obsession.
This is a line I never saw crossed in Precure and it left a bad taste in my mouth. This is a franchise aimed at little girls and these creators know the messages they put out to impressionable girls can influence them to think this is normal.
Once again this is another Magical Girl Show that promotes pedo beliefs and instead of choosing to age up the main characters to 18 or make George her age OR remove this plot point entirely someone gave the final product the green light.
Toei is very influencial in the anime industry and this should not have been produced due to this dangerous theme, we see how George grooms Hana and it is protrayed as desirable, sadly many people online ship a MINOR AND AN ADULT together which re- enforces this idea is okay and normalizes this belief.
No it is not. With this being a pattern in these shows aimed at young girls maybe this is hinting at a deeper and disturbing meaning underneath the surface.
Looking up these two for references was not pleasant either because people were shipping a child and a grown man together and making fan art:
