Anime Influences Reality (4) How Anime Shaped The Sexualization of Gals

 


In  my previous article discussing kogal gyaru and the sexualization of them due to their depictiom in anime, I introduced you to the Gyaru fashion and subculture. Today I will look at how anime inaccurately protrays gyarus as a whole as flirtacious, fille/ femme fatales whom are vain, glamorous and sexual. This has lead to people sexualising gyaru/ gals or having the idea that gals are promiscuious when they are not. This mis interpertation goes into anime and manga who have a stereotypical and close minded idea on what being a Gal is and play into sexualizing them thus furthering objectifying gyarus and playing into stereotypes

Due to the correlation between sex and gyaru people think the two are intertwined when it is not.  Many people in the west have incorrectly linked being a bimbo to gyaru when the two archetypes are not connected. The example of a bimbo and a gyaru (pictured sub style agejo) are as different as night and day. 





Here I will compare substyles of gyaru in anime to reality. Many aurthors use gyaru to oversexualise minors and have a perverted outlook on the substyle. 
As I explained in part 2, gyaru is not linked tk living a promiscuious lifestyle and the fact this stereotype still persists in 2024 when designing gyaru characters (especially kogals) is apalling!

Due to this notion people sexualise gyaru from Japan and foreigners who participate in this substyle. This fashiom is about having fun, being confident and self expression. Here are a few styles of gyaru that is depicted in anime listed below.  
I hope more aurthors DO RESEARCH before designing gyaru characters  instead of depicting minors in designs to sexuslize them instead of using the myriad of substyles to create interesting, fun and fashionable designs and an example of thid is  the manga GALS. (Seen in my cover image)

Sailor Moon Exposed Part 2 Analysing Usagi & Mamoru's Relationship

Note: In Act 1 Usagi is 14,  Mamorou is 16, in the Black Moon Arc Usagi is 14,  Mamoru is 16-17  In the Infinity Arc , Usagi is 14-15, Mamoru is 17-18. In the Dream Arc Usagi is 15 and in Stars she is 15-16. Her age is unknown in the Epilouge.  In the Dream and Stars  Arc Mamoru is 18 and by the Epilouge Mamoru  is 24. Let us look at another issue of the manga and Crystal, the relationship’ between Usagi and Mamoru.  It starts off with Tuxedo Mask looking for a woman in his dreams who is calling out to him and he is looking for the Silver Crystal to restore his memories due to having anesia. Princess Tutu Exposed Analysing Rue/ Krahe's and Mytho's Relationship

  Ages of Characters: Rue (15 years old) Mytho: Immortal (physical appearance of a 15 year old boy) Similar to Revolutionary Girl Utena, Tutu uses a fairytale as a motif ,however it is inspired by ballet. The overall story is loosely inspired by Swan Lake .
